ESSAYS. Summer residence project for Italian non-fiction translators
On 23rd December 2022 the Foundation signed a new Agreement in partnership with the Centro per il Libro e la Lettura, independent Institute of Ministry of Culture, which is managed by Direzione Generale Biblioteche e diritto d’autore, for the renewal for the ESSAYS residence of the essay writing translators.
The Centre and the Foundation take into consideration their institutional aims and the complementarity concerning their specific topics and desire to cooperate together to promote Contemporary Literature related to translation from Italian to German, English and French languages, in regard to the flow of tourism of the linguistic area which is drawn to Garda area and in view of international events Paris Book Fair (2023) and Frankfurt Book Fair (2024) where Italy will be the Honor Guest.
The second edition of ESSAYS expects the realization – in Lonato, at the Foundation headquarter – of a one-month summer residence in favor of foreign translators of Italian books, especially interested to current affairs journalism and literary essaysconcerning scientific, medical, tradition and society, technology, Literature, Philosophy divulgation etc.
The residence will host foreign translators interested in the development of essay writing projects from Italian to other foreign languages and it will take place during July 2023.
It is published a Competition Announcement in order to assign the vacant positions, addressed to German, English and French native speaker translators.
In the field of the 2023 residence the award “Italia da leggere” will be launched on an experimental basis, which consists in the awarding of the essay writing volume, that will be recognized as the best 2022/2023 publishing production, able to represent and tell today Italy, according to its features concerning economic and cultural identity.
The prize, which amounts to Euro 5.000, will cover the cost of the translation into at least one of the foreign languages related to the residence.
